JULE AND THE GREAT SUNFLOWER PROJECT

Recent studies have shown that Bees are declining in certain wild and many agricultural landscapes. However, little is known about urban Bees. Recent data on bumble bees in an urban setting suggests that urban bees may also be declining. The loss of these pollinators is important along with understanding what effect the losses have had on the pollinating duties that bees provide. 

This summer Jule is happy to participate, once again, in The Great Sunflower Project. The project is the brain child of Gretchen LeBuhn, a conservation biologist at San Francisco State University. She is trying to address the lack of data on urban Bee populations. She and her colleagues have launched the Great Sunflower Project, a citizen science project designed to monitor and map bee populations across the country. 

When the plants flower, volunteers observe the bees that visit, reporting their samples on standardized data sheets and subsequently submitting the information to the GreatSunflower.org web site. Anyone who is interested can sign up to be a part of the project next year through the web site. You will receive a sunflower seed packet to plant, data sheets and information about the project. Go to GreatSunflower.org to sign up and do your part to help figure out just what is happening with our Bees !

JULE'S RADIO TRIBUTE TO PV2 JUAN ARCE, JR.

Briefly, although Juan was very "COMPLEX", it was with great shock and sadness that Jule learned of Juan's passing on Oct. 28th '07 while stationed at Fort Lewis, Tacoma Washington military base.  Arce was Jule's son's best friend and was like a family member to her for so many years. He was one of a kind and can never be replaced and will never be forgotten.  Juan was a founding member of Scrape the Plate Records and was a hip hop musician and songwriter.  STP is currently working on releasing a CD compilation of Arce's (a.k.a Complex) music.

BIG NOYD AT SCRAPE THE PLATE RECORDS

Big Noyd visited and recorded at the Scrape the Plate Records studio this month, contributing a track on the upcoming "Complex" aka Juan Arce tribute CD. The rapper Big Noyd, famous for his ongoing recordings with the infamous Mobb Deep, was one of Complex's favorite artists. Big Noyd's latest album is titled "Illustrious" 
Released: January 22, 2008. With the single "Things Done Changed Feat. Kira"  Jule was happy to be one of the sponsors of this project.

JULE'S PARENTS establish College

Former residents of West New York, New Jersey, and graduates of Memorial High School, Alan and Doris  [Jule's parents] continue to have fond memories of that time in their lives. They sprung forth from Memorial High School onto college and ultimately careers as a Certified Public Accountant, and a Legal Administrative Assistant, respectively. Their belief in the Arts and Humanities led them to establish these grants for qualified students graduating from Memorial High School.

Jule is very proud to have parents that care about others so much.

WARREN ZEVON'S CHILI RECIPE

Check out my website www.CookingWithJule.com -- click on the Recipes link to get to this authentic rockin' Chile Recipe by Warren Zevon. The recipe originated from his recently published Biography "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead/The Dirty Life & Times of Warren Zevon. Within the book, the recipe was in tiny print, so I blew it up and it's now on my cooking web site...I whipped up a batch of Zevon's Chile..and it's really the best Chile I've ever had..and I've cooked up many batches of Chile in my time, I was in a prior life, a professional chef ! Jule has licensed four original songs to Galileo Productions, LLC for soundtrack use in " Bats: The Last Flight", a documentary about preserving migratory Bats (mysteriously perishing from white nose syndrome, threatening the existance of the species) and promoting ecology and cave preservation.

Jule composed an instrumental track "Bat Ambience II" specifically for the project. Additionally the producers chose to also use instrumental versions of Jule's songs Wonderin', Forest Cascades, and Country.

Jule has licensed her song "Lucky Ones" which is part of the soundtrack for Emerson College's (located in Boston, Ma.) 25th Reunion DVD. The DVD was seen and purchased by broadcasting professionals returning to the College for their 25th reunion in early June. Jule's song "Lucky Ones" appears on her album Let It Go.
